Cognition class [Week6]

This week, we studied about Attention and Mental Resource. Attention is the behavioral and cognition process of selectively concentrating on one aspect of the environment while ignoring other things. This function of human brain allows us to gain more important information from confusing environment around.

In the class, we did some fun activities which gave us some ideas on how our attention system works. And we also had a chance to challenge our attention abilities through Dichotic listening test. We used earphones, and listened to the words, then wrote them all down in order as correctly as possible. We listened by using only our left ears first, then changed to only the right ears. In the last part of this activity, we listened with our both ears at the same time, but the sound of the words from the left and right earphones were different, and it was very difficult for us to concentrate. In the end, most of us students tent to catch the correct words with our right ears better than left. This is because, we normally use the left brain to control the right side of our body, and the logic system is also located on the left brain.
