In this class, we learnt about memory structure and process. Human brain has the system to transform a short-term memory to long-term memory. There are some simple diagram which can illustrate this system clearly such as “Atkinson-Shiffrin Memory Model in 1968”. First, we receive the information (sensory memory), then if we pay attention to the data, our brains will transfer this memory to short-term memory. After that, the brain will transform this memory to long-term memory.
By understanding the basic system about memory, we could come up with the methods which can improve your memory or help you remember things better. For example, it is almost impossible to remember very long numbers, if we group them into 3-4 items, we can remember them better. This simple yet practical technic has been used to help us remember phone numbers better. There are a lot more methods we can use base on this basic knowledge of brain system.
At the end of the class, we worked in pairs to create matching card game. We used the knowledge we got from the class to design graphic on the cards to help players match the cards easily.
